BrightPATH Framework and Strategies

Our Parent Coaching Framework

A parent-focused coaching model designed to help families navigate academic and behavioral challenges with clarity, consistency, and confidence.

P – Purposeful Guidance - Using Data Effectively (IEP, 504, BIP)

Using student performance and behavior data to coach parents in making informed, effective decisions that support their child’s growth.

Strategies:

● 1:1 Data Coaching Sessions: Help parents interpret IEPs, 504 Plans, behavior intervention data, and progress reports.

● Data Translation Tools: Create simplified visuals and parent-friendly templates for understanding school data.

● Progress Monitoring Plans: Support parents in setting realistic, data-aligned goals they can reinforce at home.

● Advocacy Prep: Equip parents with tools and language to communicate data clearly in school meetings.

A – Actionable Strategies - Learning and Behavior Support

Providing practical, consistent approaches parents can use to support learning and positive behavior in the school system.

Strategies:

● Teacher Collaboration Review: Use input from teacher reports and parent-teacher conferences to develop aligned strategies. ● Coaching on School Language: Teach parents how to interpret and use terminology common in education (IEPs, 504s, academic evaluations, and behavior plans).

● Resource Navigation: Guide parents to access academic, behavioral, and support services available within the school and broader community.

● Family Strategy Plans: Tailor consistent, realistic routines to support learning and behavior at home, aligned with school goals.

T – Thriving Learning Environments - In School and at Home

Helping parents create and support learning spaces where children are empowered to reach their fullest potential.

Strategies:

● Classroom Observations (with permission): Offer support to parents in understanding their child’s behavior and learning in the classroom context.

● Instructional Strategy Coaching: Teach parents how to use a learning style inventory to support their child’s growth.

● Parent-School Communication Coaching: Empower parents to engage confidently and effectively with educators about instructional methods and accommodations.

● Home-School Partnership Plans: Develop action steps for collaboration between parents and teachers to ensure consistency and mutual accountability.

H – Holistic Approach - Academic, Behavioral, and Emotional Growth

Coaching parents to understand the full picture of their child’s needs and the education system—so they can advocate effectively and support academic, behavioral, and emotional growth across all settings.

Strategies:

● Education Navigation Coaching: Demystify how special education, Section 504, and school behavior systems work.

● Whole-Child Planning: Guide parents in seeing the connections between learning, behavior, and development to better support their child’s overall well-being.

● Referral and Support Networks: Help families access tutoring, behavioral therapy, mental health services, and after-school programs in the community.

● IEP/504/BIP Meeting Preparation: Role-play and prep parents to actively participate in team meetings, ask questions, and advocate clearly for their child.
